  Report On The 1st National Delegate Congress Of The Badminton Association Of Ghana

INTRODUCTION

The Badminton Association held its 1st National Delegate Congress in Accra on Thursday, 27th May, 2010 where the Nine Executive Board Members were elected and accordingly sworn into office for a 4 year term and eligible for re-election for another term. Seventeen (17) eligible delegates representing various stakeholders across the country attended the Congress with 8 nominees for the various positions including; the president, vice president, treasurer and 5 other members.

Absent were delegates from the Upper East, Upper West, GUSA, GPSA and GES though they earlier confirmed their participation. Brong Ahafo is the only region in country yet to form its Regional Badminton Association.

 

3. BUSINESS OF THE CONGRESS

CONSTITUTION

Prior to the elections, delegates devoted over 3 hours to discuss the draft constitution.

The congress subsequently adopted the constitution upon the motion by Dr. K. A. Asamoah and seconded by Mr. Albert Atutiga.

 

ELECTIONS
Congress accordingly executed its mandate of electing the members of the Executive Board to run the affairs of BAG for the next 4 years in accordance with the constitution. Nominations were received in respect of the following positions - President, Treasurer and 5 other Executive Board Members as shown below.

With the exception of the Vice Presidential position, the rest – the President, Treasure and 5 Other Executives as per the constitution were elected unopposed. For the Vice Presidential position 2 persons stood namely: Mr. Mike Okine and Dr. K. A. Asamoah and when it was put into voting, Mr. Mike Okine polled 9 votes out of the 12 votes cast against the 3 obtained by Dr. K. A. Asamoah to emerge the winner. Dr. K. A. Asomoah was subsequently, co-opted into the Executive Board to meet the constitutional requirement of a 9 man Executive Board. The Secretary General position is non elective and is the prerogative of the National Sports Council to select.

OATH OF OFFICE
The 9 Member Executive Board took the official oath administered by the chief Executive of the National Sports Council.

 

ELECTORAL OFFICER - The election was supervised and conducted by Mr. Issaka Hamid the Public Relations Officer of the National Sports Council.
